Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has successfully commissioned its 2,500 MW solar energy transmission project in Bidar, Karnataka, marking a significant step towards strengthening transmission infrastructure for renewable energy integration. The project achieved the Date of Commercial Operation (DOCO) on October 5, 2026.
POWERGRID made the announcement under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. The company confirmed that it received the official notification for commercial operation through email on October 8, 2026.
The project, titled “Transmission Scheme for Solar Energy Zone in Bidar (2500 MW), Karnataka (TBCB),” is designed to support the transmission of electricity generated from the region’s large-scale solar energy capacity. The commissioning is expected to support the integration of renewable power into the electricity grid and strengthen the infrastructure required for India’s expanding solar energy sector.
The project was initially assigned to POWERGRID Bidar Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of POWERGRID. However, following an order issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on January 27, 2026, the subsidiary was amalgamated with POWERGRID Khavda II-C Transmission Limited, with the merger becoming effective on March 1, 2026.
The completion of the project reflects continued investment in transmission infrastructure to facilitate renewable energy development. As India expands its solar power capacity, dedicated transmission systems are essential for evacuating electricity from renewable energy zones and delivering it to the wider power grid.
The regulatory disclosure was signed by Anjana Luthra, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer of POWERGRID.
