POWERGRID Invites Bids for 187.5 MW/750 MWh Battery Storage Project in Telangana

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has invited online bids for the development of a 187.5 MW / 750 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Telangana. The project aims to strengthen electricity grid stability and support the integration of renewable energy into the power network. The tender has been published through the company’s PRANIT Portal, inviting eligible firms with the necessary technical and financial capabilities to participate in the bidding process.

The project is designated as Package TS-BESS-01 and carries Tender Reference Number CC/T/W-BESS/DOM/A02/26/14098. The proposed battery storage system will have a power capacity of 187.5 MW and an energy storage capacity of 750 MWh, equivalent to four hours of storage at full output. The project is expected to contribute to the development of energy storage infrastructure required to support the increasing share of renewable energy in the electricity system.

The tender falls under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route and is classified under works related to power and energy projects. Interested bidders can access the tender documents through POWERGRID’s official tendering platform using RFX Number 5002005732. Participants are required to examine the tender conditions and pre-qualification requirements before submitting their bids.

According to the tender details, the participation fee has been fixed at Rs. 25,000. The tender value and earnest money deposit (EMD) are listed as zero on the portal. Prospective bidders should refer to the official tender documents for the applicable eligibility conditions, technical specifications, commercial requirements and other instructions governing participation.

The tender schedule specifies October 12, 2026, at 7:50 PM as the commencement date and time for both document sales and soft copy bid submissions. The document sale period will remain open until October 17, 2026, at 11:55 PM. The deadline for submitting bids is October 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM.

The bids are scheduled to be opened on October 19, 2026, at 11:30 AM, providing a short interval between the submission deadline and the opening process. Interested companies must complete the required procedures within the prescribed schedule to ensure their participation in the tender.

The tender is being managed by Satyam Gupta, Engineer (CS), at POWERGRID’s corporate office. The office is located at Saudamini, 3rd Floor, Plot No. 2, Sector 29, Gurugram, Haryana.

The proposed Telangana BESS project comes amid growing requirements for flexible electricity infrastructure to accommodate variable renewable generation. Battery storage systems can store electricity when supply is available and discharge it when demand rises or renewable generation declines. Such capabilities can help balance supply and demand, improve grid flexibility and support the reliable integration of solar and wind power.

Through this tender, POWERGRID is advancing the development of large-scale battery storage infrastructure. The project represents another step towards strengthening India’s electricity network and meeting the operational requirements of a power system increasingly supported by renewable energy sources.
