NTPC Commissions Fifth 95.6 MW Solar Capacity At Rajasthan’s Kalasar Project

NTPC Limited, India’s state-owned power generation company, has commenced commercial operations of an additional 95.6 MW solar capacity at its Kalasar Solar Energy Project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, further strengthening its renewable energy portfolio. The fifth part capacity of the project became commercially operational with effect from midnight on October 30, 2026.

The newly commissioned capacity is part of a larger 650 MW solar component being developed under the 500 MW Round-the-Clock (RTC) project awarded by Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL). The project is being executed by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a step-down subsidiary of NTPC Limited through its renewable energy arm, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL).

ReNew

The commissioning of the latest solar capacity marks another step in NTPC’s efforts to expand its renewable energy generation base and increase the share of clean energy in its overall portfolio. The company has been progressively bringing different portions of the Kalasar project into commercial operation, contributing additional solar power capacity to India’s electricity grid.

Following the addition of 95.6 MW, the total installed capacity of the NTPC Group has increased to 91,668 MW. Its overall commercial capacity has also reached 90,588 MW, reflecting the contribution of the newly operationalised solar segment.

The commissioning has also increased the renewable energy capacity of the NTPC Green Energy Limited Group. Its total installed capacity has risen to 11,424.29 MW, while its commercial capacity has reached 11,328.69 MW. The latest addition further strengthens NGEL’s position as a major renewable energy developer within the NTPC Group.

Rajasthan continues to play an important role in India’s solar energy expansion due to its favourable solar radiation conditions and availability of land for large-scale renewable energy projects. NTPC’s Kalasar project is part of the company’s broader strategy to increase clean energy generation and support the country’s energy transition.

Through its renewable energy subsidiaries, NTPC is expanding its presence across solar, wind and other clean energy segments. The company aims to progressively increase its renewable energy portfolio while supporting India’s long-term targets for sustainable power generation, energy security and reduced carbon emissions.
