Colombian Government Launches Solar-Powered Hybrid Plant in Casuarito, Enhancing Energy Access for 239 Families

The Institute for Planning and Promotion of Energy Solutions (IPSE) and the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia have announced the inauguration of a hybrid power generation plant in Casuarito, a township of Puerto Carreño, Vichada. This new facility combines photovoltaic panels, batteries, and a hybrid diesel backup system, extending energy service hours for 239 families in the region.

The energy project, detailed in a recent statement, includes the installation of 810 solar panels with a total generation capacity of 372.6 KWp, 154 energy storage batteries with a cumulative capacity of 1,182.72 kWh, a 132 KW backup diesel generator, and expanded distribution networks.

The project’s total investment is approximately 6,190 million Colombian pesos (1.6 million dollars).

“We have inaugurated the Casuarito hybrid power plant with a completely public investment in collaboration with the IPSE. This project enables us to extend the hours of energy service for 239 families in this non-interconnected area,” said Minister of Energy Andrés Camacho.
