Thanks to the visionary leadership of the UAE, the country has emerged as one of the largest investors in renewable energy globally, achieving significant milestones in reducing emissions from the energy sector. According to the Statistical Review of World Energy issued by the UK-based Energy Institute last year, the UAE ranks among the top countries in the world in solar energy utilization. The report also highlights the UAE as the 6th highest per capita consumer of solar energy globally.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, celebrated under the theme “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration,” HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), emphasized the UAE’s leading role in climate action. He highlighted major projects aimed at increasing the share of clean and renewable energy sources and enhancing energy efficiency to reduce emissions and protect the environment and natural resources.

Al Tayer pointed out that DEWA continues to implement pioneering projects to increase the share of renewable and clean energy in Dubaiโ€™s energy mix. These efforts are in line with the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming to provide 100% of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.
