Egypt And European Union Looking For Cooperation In Renewable Energy And Green Hydrogen

Badr Abdel Ati, Egypt’s Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union, has examined the possibilities of establishing cooperation with the EU in areas such as renewable, traditional, clean energy, and green hydrogen, a news agency reported.

The diplomat met with Kadri Simson, the EU Commissioner For Energy, Tinne Van der Straeten, the Belgian Energy Minister, and other key representatives of the EU as well as the Belgian energy companies.

Both sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the development of ports, as well as the protection of Egyptian beaches.

Simson praised Egypt’s energy cooperation and highlighted Egypt’s success in organizing the recent climate change conference (COP27), held in Sharm El Sheikh.

Van der Straeten, for her part, praised the momentum of bilateral relations between Egypt and Belgium as a result of Egypt’s immense potential and its natural resources.

Egypt and Europe have discussed many times the possibility of enhancing cooperation in the area of green hydrogen and renewable energy.

COP27 saw the launch of the first phase of a project that would build a 100 MW green hydrogen plant in Ain Sokhna, a Red Sea city.

During COP27 Egypt presented its national strategy for clean hydrogen production. The country intends to be a center for green hydrogen production and exportation.
