Masen Launches Tender For Noor Midelt III Solar Power Project In Morocco

As part of the nation’s push for renewable energy development, Masen, the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy, has taken crucial steps to expedite the ambitious Noor Midelt III Project.

Building upon the earlier announcement of pre-qualified firms for the second phase of the Noor Midelt program (Noor Midelt II) in July 2023, Masen has now initiated the prequalification process for selecting a private partner.

This partner will undertake the responsibilities of financing, construction, and operation for the groundbreaking Noor Midelt III Project. Noor Midelt III is anticipated to boast a photovoltaic solar capacity of approximately 400 MW, complemented by a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a storage capacity of around 400 MWh.

This strategic design will play a pivotal role in significantly integrating renewable energies, especially by catering to the peak demand of the national power system. Structured under Project Financing, Noor Midelt III aims to foster increased involvement of the private sector in renewable energy deployment.

It also seeks extensive engagement from both domestic and international commercial banks for its funding. With the progressive implementation of the Noor Midelt I, II, and III projects, the Midelt region is poised to host one of the world’s largest solar complexes, with a collective installed capacity reaching approximately 1600 MW.

This significant stride aligns with Morocco’s ambitious goal of achieving a renewable energy-oriented electricity mix, targeting a minimum of 52% renewable capacity by 2030.
