Utico, the solitary private utility provider in the UAE, has unveiled a pivotal move in its eco-friendly initiatives through a collaboration with sustainable energy developer, Yellow Door Energy (YDE).
The joint announcement at the WETEX and Dubai Solar Show reveals plans for an unprecedented solar plant in Umm Al Quwain, projected to generate 4,700 megawatt-hours of clean energy annually.
Utico’s Group CEO, Hussain Al Lawati, highlighted the venture’s significance in achieving carbon neutrality and supporting the UAE’s sustainability goals.
Yellow Door Energy, as the project developer, will oversee the financing, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the solar plant and hybrid system integration. Notably, the project is anticipated to remove 82,000 metric tons of CO2e, aligning with the UAE’s carbon-neutral strategy.
Rory McCarthy, COO of Yellow Door Energy, expressed pride in supporting Utico’s sustainability journey, emphasizing the project’s role in decarbonizing operations. The solar plant initiative follows Utico’s recent collaboration with Shandong Tianyi Chemical Corporation for a groundbreaking circular economy project and aims to provide green energy to Utico’s pumping station in Umm Al Quwain.
