Global design and engineering company Dar Al-Handasah has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sun Africa, a specialist in the renewable energy sector with an extensive project portfolio across Africa. This agreement solidifies their ongoing collaboration on energy transition and sustainable development initiatives across the continent, including the development of seven photovoltaic farms in Angola. These farms are anticipated to generate a combined capacity of 380 MW, supplying renewable and sustainable energy to a million people in the country. Two plants, located in Biรณpio and Baia Farta, were successfully inaugurated in 2022, with the remaining five plants currently under construction.
Under the terms of the MoU, Dar will offer comprehensive technical assistance, covering design, project management, and construction supervision for Sun Africa projects. Initially, the collaboration will focus on projects in Angola and Nigeria, with potential expansion across Africa, the Middle East, and other markets. Dar has also committed to supporting Sun Africa in securing funding for its upcoming energy transition and sustainable development projects in Africa.
Danny Aoun, the Regional Director of Operations at Dar, emphasized the deepened collaboration with Sun Africa, highlighting their successful history of working together to implement projects that promote sustainable development, empower communities, and create value. Aoun pointed out that the projects undertaken by Sun Africa and Dar, especially as showcased at COP28 UAE in Dubai, serve as tangible examples of impactful initiatives needed to steer our world in the right direction. He expressed eagerness for increased collaboration in pursuit of their shared mission.
Adam Cortese, the CEO of Sun Africa & UGT Renewables, conveyed his excitement about the significant alliance with Dar, characterizing it as a groundbreaking partnership between two global leaders in engineering. Cortese underscored that their strategic collaboration transcends geographical boundaries, uniting both companies in a mission to transform renewable energy, transmission and distribution systems, off-grid solutions, and water purification. He emphasized that this partnership not only marks a crucial moment for Sun Africa and UGT Renewables but also reinforces their dedication to global-scale sustainable development. Together, they aim to make a lasting impact by delivering innovative solutions to address urgent challenges in the realms of energy and the environment.
Dar has a successful track record of providing consultancy services for projects where Sun Africa is the primary developer, including a 400 MWp photovoltaic farm in Lauca, a 104 MWp photovoltaic farm in Icolo and Bengo, and Sun Africaโs initiative to bring rural electrification to 65 municipalities and communes in Huila, Cunene, Cuando Cubango, and Namibe.
