In a significant step towards bolstering its renewable energy capacity, Burkina Faso marked the commissioning of the Pâ photovoltaic solar power plant.
The ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson KYELEM de TAMBELA and Energy Minister Simon-Pierre BOUSSIM, aimed at increasing access to electricity for the population.
The Pâ solar power plant, with a capacity of 30MWp, is anticipated to contribute an average of 54.15 GWh per year to the national grid. This clean energy injection is expected to provide electricity to around thirty-one thousand households connected to the SONABEL network.
The project aligns with the government’s strategic vision to enhance citizens’ access to electricity and leverage the advantages of solar energy over traditional fossil fuels.
Minister Simon-Pierre BOUSSIM emphasized the commitment to harnessing the potential of photovoltaic solar energy to meet the growing electricity demands of the population.
Burkina Faso has entered into public/private partnership (PPP) contracts with independent electricity producers, totalling 155 MWp, to harness the benefits of green energy.
Following the inauguration of the Kôdéni and Pâ solar plants, the Zano power plant in the Center-East region is set to commence operations. The government’s initiatives underscore its dedication to advancing solar energy deployment across various regions of the country.
