ACCIONA Energía announced plans today to construct a new 412MWp photovoltaic project in Rajasthan, India, slated for commissioning by 2025.
Comprising approximately 750,000 photovoltaic modules, each with a capacity of 545Wp, the solar farm aims to generate approximately 800GWh of clean electricity annually. This output is sufficient to power around 840,000 households and is expected to prevent the emission of 724,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
This project marks ACCIONA Energía’s largest venture in India, complementing its existing portfolio of four wind farms and underlining the company’s commitment to expansion and geographical diversification.
In line with ACCIONA Energy’s Social Impact Management program, the project will support education, welfare, and environmental initiatives within the local communities it serves.
India ranks as the fourth-largest power market globally by installed capacity, with 42% of its cumulative capacity derived from non-fossil fuel sources. With a target of reaching 500GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, India stands as one of the most promising markets for renewable energy growth.
Over the past nine years, India has witnessed a thirty-fold increase in installed solar energy capacity, with Rajasthan boasting the highest cumulative large-scale solar installations, exceeding 18GW by the end of 2023. This accounts for approximately 25% of the country’s cumulative utility-scale solar capacity.
