In Indramayu, PT Kilang Pertamina International (KPI) Refinery Unit VI (Kilang) Balongan has inaugurated a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 1.51 Megawatt peak (MWp) on February 19th. This PLTS is the result of a synergy within the Pertamina Group, specifically between KPI and Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE).

The inauguration was led by KPI Operations Director Didik Bahagia and Pertamina NRE Projects & Operations Director Norman Ginting, alongside GM Refinery Unit VI Balongan Sugeng Firmanto and Pertamina VP Infrastructure Master Plan Muhammad Yasir Arofat. The PLTS, split into two areas with capacities of 1 MWp and 0.51 MWp respectively, supplies electricity for housing at the Balongan Refinery.

Norman Ginting expressed pride in the decarbonization efforts at the Pertamina International Refinery, citing the PLTS as a collaboration between Pertamina NRE and Pertamina International Refinery to achieve Pertamina’s net zero emission aspirations.

Additionally, Norman emphasized Pertamina’s commitment to implementing ESG aspects, with the ESG score improving annually. Didik Bahagia reiterated KPI’s commitment to supporting decarbonization efforts within the operating unit, aiming to positively impact the environment while contributing to global sustainability goals.

Beyond enhancing power supply reliability, the solar farm underscores the Balongan Refinery’s full commitment to decarbonization and aligns with the ESG rating for both KPI and Pertamina. It is expected to deliver 781 MWh of energy per year, reducing carbon emissions by nearly 600 tons of CO2 annually.

To date, KPI’s installed solar power plants across operating areas have reached a capacity of 9.87 MWp, including installations in Dumai Refinery (3.77 MW), Plaju Refinery (2.25 MW), Balongan Refinery (1.51 MW), and Cilacap Refinery (2.34 MW). These efforts have led to a distribution of 10 million kWh of energy and reduced emissions by over 6 million tons of CO2, equivalent to planting 7 thousand mature trees.

Aligned with government objectives, Pertamina aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2060 through decarbonization, low-carbon business initiatives, and carbon offset measures.
