During the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) on March 19, 2024, Dr. Robert Habeck, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, presented the LOI to Dr. Gunar Hering, CEO of ENERTRAG. The ceremony was attended by Namibia’s Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo, and James Mnyupe, Green Hydrogen Commissioner and Economic Advisor to the Namibian President.
Dr. Habeck emphasized Germany’s support for sustainable hydrogen and PtX cooperation in Namibia, noting the alignment of the “Hyphen” project with these objectives. Dr. Tobias Bischof-Niemz, designated Board Member for International Projects & Technology at ENERTRAG, expressed gratitude for the German government’s trust in the project.
Marco Raffinetti, CEO of Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, highlighted the significance of projects like Hyphen in decarbonizing heavy industry globally and praised Germany’s leadership in advancing decarbonization efforts.
Minister Tom Alweendo welcomed the LOI as a milestone in realizing Namibia’s ambitions to foster a thriving synthetic fuels industry, emphasizing the signal it sends to deepen trade relations.
The classification of strategic foreign projects aims to provide targeted support from the German government to select international projects involving German companies, facilitating their realization.
