RWE, a prominent figure in the renewable energy sector, has commenced the construction of its inaugural solar plant in Italy. Named Bosco, the ground-mounted solar facility boasts a capacity of 8.3 megawatts (MWac) and is set to be situated in Partinico Municipality near Palermo, Sicily. Spanning over a 16-hectare area, the plant will feature approximately 15,000 bifacial modules, generating ample green electricity to power around 7,000 Italian households. The commissioning of Bosco is slated for the end of the year.
Katja Wรผnschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, expressed enthusiasm about the project, highlighting its swift progression from development to construction. Thanks to Italy’s new accelerated permitting process, the project achieved “Ready to Build” status in less than 18 months, marking a significant milestone for RWE’s endeavors in the Italian market.
RWE Renewables Italia has established a strong foothold in the Italian renewables market, employing an integrated project approach encompassing development, construction, operation, and marketing of wind farms and solar plants. With 15 onshore wind farms already operational in Italy, RWE supplies approximately 400,000 households with green electricity annually. Currently, the company is in the process of constructing the 54-MW San Severo wind farm and preparing to commence construction on the Mondonuovo wind farm, both located in the Apulia region.
