In a notable development, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy has reported a significant increase in photovoltaic (PV) installations registered for subsidies during the first quarter of the year. The data reveals a record-breaking 603 MW of PV installations signed up for funding in the initial three months of 2024, marking an impressive 81% surge compared to the same period last year.
March alone witnessed a remarkable influx of installations, with 6,112 systems registered for subsidies through the Swiss government agency Pronovo. This surge accounted for a capacity of 197 MW, indicating a substantial uptick in PV adoption.
The surge in registrations was primarily attributed to a rise in larger systems exceeding 100 kW in capacity, while applications for smaller systems with less than 100 kW remained relatively stagnant during the first quarter.
Furthermore, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy noted a notable increase in PV systems installed on building facades. Pronovo received 484 registrations for such installations during the first three months of 2024, totaling a capacity of 6.7 MW.
This surge in PV installations underscores Switzerland’s commitment to renewable energy adoption and signifies a significant step towards achieving sustainability goals in the country.
