Ameresco, Inc., a leading cleantech integrator specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy, announced that it and Envision Energy have been selected by Atlantic Green to build the Cellarhead project, a 300-megawatt (MW) battery energy storage system (BESS) with a maximum capacity of 624 megawatt hours (MWh). Connected to National Gridโ€™s Cellarhead sub-station, this project will enhance the UKโ€™s energy security and reliability. Ameresco and Atlantic Green aim to complete the BESS and secure grid connection by mid-2026. Upon completion, Atlantic Green will own and operate the BESS as an energy storage asset.

Established in 2021 as a joint venture between Nofar Energy and Interland Group, Atlantic Green is a UK-based platform dedicated to investing in, developing, and operating grid-scale standalone battery energy storage systems across the UK. With a mission to develop approximately 2 GW of battery storage capacity to support the UKโ€™s clean energy transition, the Cellarhead BESS marks a significant milestone in their journey and sustainability goals. As part of the project, Ameresco has entered into an EPC and O&M contract, which includes battery supply, balance of plant, warranty, and availability guarantees. The total EPC contract is valued at approximately $249 million (196.5 million GBP). Tier 1 OEM Envision Energy will supply the BESS, associated services, and equipment warranties.
