President of Azerbaijan Initiates Masdar’s 1GW Solar and Wind Projects

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC โ€“ Masdar, the UAEโ€™s leading clean energy company, in partnership with SOCAR, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan, has commenced construction on three significant solar and wind projects in Azerbaijan with a combined capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW).

The groundbreaking event, held during the opening ceremony of Baku Energy Week, underscores Masdarโ€™s enduring commitment to Azerbaijan as a strategic global partner.

The ceremony was presided over by HE Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, and HE Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Chairman of Masdar, and COP28 President. Other notable attendees included HE Parviz Shahbazov, Azerbaijanโ€™s Minister of Energy; HE Mikayil Jabbarov, Azerbaijanโ€™s Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SOCAR; and Masdar Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi.

The projects include the 445MW Bilasuvar Solar PV Project, the 315MW Neftchala Solar PV Project, and the 240MW Absheron-Garadagh Onshore Wind Project. Investment agreements for these projects were finalized in October 2023, followed by the signing of Power Purchase Agreements, Transmission Connection Agreements, and Land Lease Agreements.
