The Angolan government, represented by Mr. Serafim da Silveira, National Director of Renewable Energy and Rural Electrification (DNERER), has signed a significant contract with Mrs. Christiane Kragh, Managing Director of the German company Off-Grid Europe. The agreement, authorized by Angola’s Minister of Energy and Water, Mr. João Baptista Borges, involves the supply of 62,250 solar home systems to enhance the country’s renewable energy infrastructure.
“This project, to be developed in four provinces, is another contribution towards meeting the national goal of ensuring approximately 50% share of renewable energy sources by 2027,” stated Mr. Serafim da Silveira.
Solar Home Systems (SHS) are compact photovoltaic setups with batteries, designed to fulfill the basic energy needs of households or small businesses, particularly in off-grid areas. These systems are essential for regions lacking access to electricity, providing a reliable and sustainable energy solution.
The project aims to positively impact the lives of over 350,000 people by delivering clean, renewable energy. Photovoltaic solutions are known for their quick implementation, economic viability, regional advantages, climate resilience, and safety, making them ideal for geographically isolated rural areas.
“This lighthouse project with Off-Grid Europe and their local partner Project Net Angola will stimulate the local economy and promote sustainable growth in rural areas,” added Mr. da Silveira.
Off-Grid Europe is set to establish a subsidiary, Off-Grid Angola, as part of its commitment to expanding its market presence and contributing to local development. “With this important project in Angola, we are exploring a new and promising market. Our goal is to provide high-quality solutions that bring real added value to the local population,” said Mrs. Christiane Kragh.
The German company, which already operates a subsidiary in Senegal, plans to employ locals and build a long-term team in Angola. Mark Kragh, Technical Director of Off-Grid Europe, emphasized the company’s focus on offering competitively priced, optimized hardware and comprehensive services, including system installation and software support.
“We envision a future where everyone has access to affordable and reliable renewable energy. Our scalable and easy-to-maintain systems aim to improve the lives of millions while benefiting the environment,” Mrs. Christiane Kragh elaborated.
This collaboration between Germany and Angola marks a significant step towards sustainable energy access. The current contract is expected to be the first of many, aiming to substantially improve energy access in Angola’s remote regions over the next three to five years.
