In a landmark agreement, Pedro Vaquer, CEO of Solatio, and Rafael Fonteles, Governor of Piauí, have announced the construction of Brazil’s largest photovoltaic (PV) project. Scheduled to begin in 2025, this 4 GW solar power plant will be located in the Exportation Free Zone of Parnaíba.
The ambitious $1.98 billion project is set to bolster the hydrogen production industry for ammonia manufacturing in Parnaíba. The initial 3 GW phase of the solar plant is expected to be completed between mid-2025 and 2028.
Solatio revealed in a press release that it has secured an environmental license to produce 11.4 GW of green hydrogen and ammonia in Piauí, aiming to primarily serve the European market.
This announcement follows the Piauí government’s October 2023 agreement to produce and export 5 GW of green ammonia, underscoring the region’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable industrial development.
