Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Coca-Cola Cambodia to install a solar irrigation system at the country’s first regional nursery in Tbong Khmum. This advanced system will irrigate over a million seedlings annually, addressing public demand for trees and promoting green spaces.

Located in Village 44, Preah Theat Commune, Oreang Ov District, Tbong Khmum Province, this regional nursery is the first of its kind in Cambodia. It is part of the government’s Circular Strategy on Environment 2023–2028, aiming to protect and conserve natural resources and achieve carbon neutrality with 60 percent forest coverage by 2050.

The MOU signing took place at the Ministry of Environment office in Phnom Penh, attended by Minister of Environment H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth and Cambodia Beverage Company (Coca-Cola Cambodia) CEO Joseph Ho.

Minister Eang Sophalleth expressed gratitude to Coca-Cola Cambodia for the solar irrigation system donation, emphasizing its role in advancing the circular strategy and the nation’s carbon-neutral goals.

The Ministry will organize an exhibition titled “Green Sprout” from July 10, 2024, to promote and distribute saplings for planting at homes, schools, and public places, aligning with global environmental trends and enhancing biodiversity and natural resource conservation.

Joseph Ho, CEO of Coca-Cola Cambodia, praised the Ministry’s leadership in establishing the nursery, highlighting the donation’s alignment with Coca-Cola’s 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy and commitment to reducing CO2 emissions.

Previously, Coca-Cola Cambodia has supported similar environmental initiatives, including an irrigation system for the nursery at Cardamom Mountains National Park and a solar water well for irrigation in the Angkor area.

This partnership underscores a collaborative effort to create a sustainable and greener future for Cambodia.
