Mapúa MCM Partners With PetroGreen To Power Davao Campus With Solar Energy

Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM), in collaboration with PetroGreen Energy Corporation (PGEC), has successfully activated a significant solar energy project on its Davao City campus, marking a milestone in the institution’s commitment to sustainability.

The 360 KWp solar rooftop project, consisting of 600 units of 600wp solar panels installed across the school’s main buildings, was officially switched on July 8, 2024. This initiative not only aims to enhance the campus’s energy efficiency but also provides invaluable practical experience for students in energy science, engineering, and related fields.

Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo, President & CEO of Mapúa MCM, expressed his satisfaction with the project, stating, “We are pleased to achieve this milestone with the entire Mapúa MCM community. This solar rooftop installation underscores our proactive approach to environmental stewardship and education, aligning with our mission to promote sustainable energy solutions.”

The partnership between Mapúa MCM and PGEC commenced on February 13, 2024, culminating in the swift installation of the solar panels, which began operations less than three months after receiving the Notice to Proceed in May 2024.

At the formal switch-on ceremony, attended by executives from both institutions and Equinox Synergy, the project’s contractor, MMCM EVP and COO Engr. Alejandro H. Ballado, Jr., highlighted the significance of the project in advancing the school’s sustainability goals.

PGEC President & CEO Francisco G. Delfin Jr. expressed his appreciation for the collaboration, emphasizing PGEC’s commitment to advancing sustainability across the Philippines. “By activating this 360 KWp rooftop solar project, we are not only contributing to Mapúa MCM’s energy savings but also supporting its journey towards sustainability,” said Delfin.

PGEC, a subsidiary of PetroEnergy Resources Corporation (PERC), has a robust portfolio in renewable energy, including investments in geothermal, wind, and solar projects across the country. The company remains dedicated to expanding its renewable energy footprint to drive clean energy adoption nationwide.

Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao, established in 2015, is part of the iPeople schools under the Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC), known for its excellence in technology-driven education. The institution offers a wide range of academic programs and is recognized for its innovative educational initiatives and partnerships.
