The 5th Japan-Arab Economic Forum, cohosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA), the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), and the League of Arab States, concluded successfully on July 10-11, 2024, in Tokyo. The forum gathered key leaders including Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. TSUJI Kiyoto, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. SAITO Ken, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Mr KOZUKI Ryosuke, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry from Japan, alongside H.E. Mr Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, and various economic ministers from Arab countries.

Key Highlights:

  1. Public-Private Business and Economic Conference: Held on July 10th, featured opening remarks by Minister Saito, Minister Kharabsheh, Mr. Ali, Mr. Miyata, and Dr. Hanafi. Secretary General Aboul Gheit delivered a keynote speech emphasizing enhanced partnerships between Japan and Arab states. Discussions covered mutual trade enhancement, climate change responses, and innovation in emerging technologies like AI.
  2. Ministerial Conference: Commencing on July 11th, Minister Kamikawa highlighted the forum’s goal to foster synergy and prosperity between Japan and Arab countries. Discussions under Agenda 1 focused on resilient economic development, while Agenda 2 tackled sustainable economic development. Topics included energy security, digital infrastructure, AI, clean energy technologies for Net-zero goals, and SDGs.
  3. Joint Press Release: Released post-forum, outlined future economic cooperation directions and announced the 6th Japan-Arab Economic Forum to be hosted by an Arab country in 2026.
