Nippon Electric Glass Malaysia Signs VPPA for Solar Power to Boost Carbon Neutrality Efforts

Nippon Electric Glass (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (NEGM), a subsidiary of Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd., has announced a significant step towards its carbon neutrality goals by signing a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Res Hijau Sdn. Bhd., a special-purpose company under Ditrolic Energy Holdings Sdn. Bhd., a leading renewable energy power generation company.

This agreement marks a key milestone in NEGM’s sustainability efforts, as it allows the company to procure the environmental benefits of renewable energy generated off-site. The deal is set to leverage Ditrolic Energy’s newly established solar power plant in the northern region of the Malaysian Peninsula, contributing to a substantial reduction of approximately 41,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

The VPPA is part of Malaysia’s Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP), a government initiative launched in 2023, which enables approved companies to virtually acquire renewable energy’s environmental value. This framework supports NEGM in achieving its decarbonization targets by purchasing these environmental credits from Ditrolic Energy’s solar facilities.

Masaya Kubo, Managing Director of NEGM, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “NEGM is honored to collaborate with Ditrolic Energy on this project in Malaysia, a country that has introduced various policies toward decarbonization. This project is also an important and significant step forward for NEG Group’s commitment to carbon neutrality.”

The Nippon Electric Glass Group has been actively pursuing carbon neutrality, with a comprehensive action plan aimed at reducing CO2 emissions. As part of this initiative, the group is expanding the use of all-electric melting processes across more products and investing in the development of technologies that contribute to global decarbonization efforts.

By engaging in this VPPA, the NEG Group not only enhances its commitment to sustainable practices but also aligns itself with global efforts to combat climate change through the adoption of renewable energy sources. The group’s ongoing efforts to procure renewable electricity and obtain environmental values underline its dedication to environmental stewardship both internally and externally.
