Hydrogรจne de France (HDF Energy), a leader in large-scale green hydrogen infrastructure and high-power fuel cell manufacturing, has formalized a strengthened partnership with the Department of Energy (DoE) and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This landmark agreement is set to drive advancements in research and development focused on harnessing renewable energy sources and locally produced green hydrogen, with the goal of promoting sustainable energy solutions throughout the Philippines.

Building on successful collaborations with MinDA and the National Power Corporation (NPC) in 2023, this MoU represents a pivotal step towards decarbonizing the Philippines’ power sector. It is part of a broader energy transition strategy aimed at fostering investments in renewable energy technologies, with a special emphasis on hydrogen-based solutions.

As an archipelago, the Philippines faces significant challenges related to climate change and electricity supply reliability, particularly in areas dependent on polluting diesel-powered grids. The collaboration with HDF Energy is expected to expedite the deployment of Renewstableยฎ multi-megawatt hydrogen power plants. This innovative technology offers a green alternative to diesel power by using solely solar or wind energy and water to generate electricity, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution. Notably, Renewstableยฎ provides consistent, non-intermittent power by combining renewable energy sources with substantial on-site green hydrogen storage.

This collaboration aims to drive transformative changes in the country’s energy landscape and enhance environmental sustainability.

The MoU was signed by Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla of the DoE; Secretary Leo Tereso Magno, Chairman of MinDA; and Mathieu Geze, President & Director of HDF Energy Philippines Holdings Incorporated. The ceremony was witnessed by H.E. Marie Fontanel, Ambassador of France to the Philippines; Ronald V. Conquilla, Assistant Secretary of DoE; Romero M. Montenegro, Assistant Secretary of MinDA; and Bernard A. Tuanquin, Business Development Director of HDF Energy Philippines Holdings Incorporated.

Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla remarked, โ€œThis MoU signifies a major milestone in our pursuit of a sustainable and resilient energy future. It highlights our collective commitment to advancing hydrogen technologies, crucial for achieving our national energy goals. We appreciate the support from MinDA, HDF Energy Philippines, and the French Government for this project, which will enhance our ability to innovate and implement cutting-edge hydrogen technologies.โ€
