The European Commission has announced the launch of the second cross-border tender under the EU Renewable Energy Financing Mechanism (RENEWFM). Established in 2020, this mechanism aims to foster cooperation among EU countries on renewable energy projects, allowing member states to host or financially contribute to each otherโ€™s initiatives. The mechanism is managed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).

This latest call for proposals builds upon commitments from Luxembourg, Finland, and Estonia. Luxembourg is contributing a voluntary payment of โ‚ฌ52.4 million, while Finland and Estonia will host the competing projects. The tender, which is open until March 4, 2025, will support ground-mounted solar PV projects in Finland and onshore wind projects in Estonia. The selected projects must be built and commissioned within two and three years, respectively, from the call’s closure.

An info day will be held by CINEA after the summer to provide details on call conditions, award criteria, and grant disbursement rules. The event will include a Q&A session and will be webcast. Specific details and dates will be announced by CINEA in the near future.

The RENEWFM pools financial contributions from participating EU countries, which are then allocated to renewable energy projects through competitive tenders. The mechanism supports both investment in renewable energy facilities and the production of renewable energy, with grants awarded based on the most competitive bids.
