Tata Power has reached a significant milestone, surpassing 100,000 rooftop solar installations across India, with 33,000 of these in Kerala alone, according to Praveer Sinha, the company’s CEO and Managing Director. This achievement is particularly notable in light of the recent launch of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, a scheme aimed at providing clean energy solutions to every household.

Speaking to reporters in Kochi, Sinha emphasized the importance of Kerala’s contribution, noting that one-third of the total installations are in the state. “We want to replicate the Kerala model in other regions as well,” he said.

During his visit, Sinha also inaugurated Tata Power’s “GharGhar Solar” initiative, which is designed to boost awareness and adoption of rooftop solar solutions. Kochi becomes the third city to roll out this program, following Jodhpur and Varanasi. The initiative offers significant financial incentives to homeowners and aims to expand its reach across all states and union territories. Sinha expressed the company’s goal of capturing a 20-25% market share of the one crore rooftop solar installations targeted by the PM Surya Ghar Yojana.

Tata Power plans to aggressively promote solar rooftop adoption through its extensive network of over 500 channel partners, with an ambitious target to increase this network to 5,000 partners nationwide.

A notable development in Kerala is Tata Power’s commissioning of a 101.6 MWp floating solar power project in Kayamkulam’s backwaters. Floating solar projects are beneficial as they conserve land, reduce water evaporation, and enhance solar panel efficiency due to the cooling effect of water. Sinha revealed that the company has already installed an 88 MW floating solar plant in Madhya Pradesh and is exploring similar opportunities in other states.
