
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), met with HE Ou Boqian, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, to explore deeper collaboration in the energy and water sectors. The meeting aimed to bolster strategic partnerships and investment opportunities, particularly in renewable energy.
Al Tayer and Ou discussed enhancing cooperation between DEWA and Chinese companies in areas such as solar power, energy storage, and smart grid infrastructure. Al Tayer reiterated DEWAโs dedication to advancing Dubaiโs energy transition and reinforcing its position as a global clean energy hub, aligning with the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which targets 100% clean energy for Dubai by 2050.
The conversation also touched on the involvement of Chinese firms in DEWA’s upcoming exhibitions, including the Water, Energy and Environment Technology Exhibition (WETEX). DEWA has previously collaborated with major Chinese companies on significant projects, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, set to reach over 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030, and the Hassyan Power Complex.
Ou praised Dubaiโs achievements in sustainable development and DEWAโs leadership in the clean energy sector, affirming Chinaโs commitment to supporting Dubaiโs energy objectives and fostering further collaboration.
The meeting was also attended by Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, and Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future at DEWA.
