The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has unveiled a comprehensive roadmap aimed at modernizing the countryโs electricity and water sectors while supporting the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. The plan was presented to the Shura Council by Kahramaa President Eng. Abdulla bin Ali Al Theyab focuses on strengthening energy security, expanding renewable energy capacity, and ensuring sustainable water management across the country.
A key element of the roadmap is the implementation of the Qatar National Renewable Energy Strategy through 2030. Kahramaa plans to significantly increase solar power generation as part of its efforts to create a more sustainable and cost-effective energy system. The initiative is designed to reduce reliance on conventional energy sources while meeting the growing electricity demand driven by Qatarโs expanding economy and urban development.
To support this transition, Kahramaa is investing in the modernization of its power transmission and distribution infrastructure. The corporation is upgrading grid networks and operating advanced control centers that monitor the electricity system around the clock. These facilities enable real-time management of the grid and help maintain a high level of reliability. In addition, Kahramaa has established an integrated emergency response framework that connects monitoring teams and emergency centers, allowing rapid restoration of services in the event of unexpected power disruptions.
Water security remains another major priority under the utilityโs long-term strategy. Kahramaa has deployed automated systems to continuously monitor water quality across reservoirs and pumping stations. These systems help ensure compliance with both local and international health and safety standards. The corporation is also working to address groundwater depletion through projects aimed at rehabilitating water-harvesting wells. Furthermore, strategic underground water storage facilities are being developed to strengthen emergency preparedness and secure water supplies for the future.
The presentation also highlighted Kahramaaโs efforts to improve operational efficiency through regulations and technological innovation. The utility is enforcing standards related to district cooling services and ensuring compliance with electrical and water installation requirements in modern buildings and facilities. At the same time, a nationwide digital transformation program is being implemented to enhance customer services. This includes the automation of meter-reading processes, which is expected to reduce human errors and improve billing accuracy for consumers.
The Shura Council session, held at Tamim bin Hamad Hall under the chairmanship of Speaker H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, also reviewed a report concerning the digital protection of children. Following discussions, the council voted to refer the proposed legislation to the government for the preparation of a formal draft law.
