The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has launched the 4th call for proposals to grant Cross-Border Renewable Energy (CB RES) status to eligible projects. This status allows projects to be added to the CB RES list, making them eligible for funding under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Energy Programme.
The CB RES programme, which began in 2021, supports renewable energy initiatives that involve cross-border cooperation between EU Member States and non-EU countries. It aims to facilitate the generation of energy from renewable sources such as wind, solar, biomass, ocean, and geothermal, along with infrastructure like grid connections and storage facilities. To date, 14 projects have been awarded over โฌ90 million to meet EU decarbonisation goals.
Projects that achieve CB RES status gain several benefits, including eligibility for CEF Energy funding, greater visibility, and increased investor confidence. Applications for CB RES status must be submitted through the dedicated platform by January 7, 2025.
