Australia Pledges $9 Million to Support Pacific Nations’ Climate Goals through NDC Hub

The Australian Government is contributing $9 million to the Regional Pacific Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Hub to support Pacific nations in addressing climate change.

Under the Paris Agreement, countries must set NDCs to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. These commitments aim to limit global temperature rise to below 2°C, with efforts to keep it to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

The Pacific-led NDC Hub provides resources and expertise to help Pacific nations meet their emissions reduction goals. Australia’s funding will help launch a new phase of the Hub as countries prepare to submit updated NDCs by 2025.

Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said, “Climate change is no longer a threat, it’s a reality, and Australia is committed to supporting our closest neighbours to deliver on their ambitious emissions reduction targets and manage investment planning for low emissions development.Each step we take to fight climate change is a step back from the brink, and Australia is dedicated to working with our Pacific neighbours to make sure our next steps are the right ones.”
