Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, UAE Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, underscored that sustainability is embedded in the UAE’s national identity, rooted in the vision of the country’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Speaking at the 2nd Global Government Leaders Programme (GGLP), Dr. Al Dahak highlighted the UAEโ€™s focus on sustainability across sectors. She emphasized that sustainability is a core value influencing both domestic policies and the UAE’s positioning as a global leader in climate action.

Dr. Al Dahak elaborated on the Ministryโ€™s approach, which involves partnerships with government entities, NGOs, and the private sector to create an integrated strategy addressing climate change. The UAE’s Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to triple the share of renewable energy, is a key part of the nationโ€™s long-term sustainability goals, she noted. The strategy also promotes the circular economy model to minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency.

She highlighted initiatives like Plant the UAE, a national programme launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which promotes sustainable agriculture, food security, and environmental conservation. This programme is part of the UAEโ€™s broader efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and enhance agricultural development.

In closing, Dr. Al Dahak reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to international cooperation in achieving global sustainable development goals. The GGLP, organized by the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Leadership Development (MBRCLD), welcomed participants from 31 countries to share the UAEโ€™s best practices and strengthen future governance models.
