Abu Dhabiโ€™s Adipec 2024 has concluded, bringing together over 184,000 attendees in a global effort to foster collaboration across the energy sector and beyond, urging multilateral innovation to drive a sustainable energy transition. Hosted by Adnoc and held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, this yearโ€™s event emphasized the need for global inclusivity and equity in energy access, particularly as demand is projected to rise nearly 50% by 2050, with growth concentrated in non-OECD countries like those in Asia and Africa.

Adipec 2024 aimed to bridge the energy divide between the Global North and South, spotlighting discussions around equity, security, and sustainability within the energy sector. One highlight was the Voices of Tomorrow conference, focused on fostering solutions for the energy trilemma. Discussions covered crucial themes such as increasing representation from underrepresented groups, forming global alliances, and fortifying future leaders in the sector.

A session titled Powering Africaโ€™s Energy System by Catalysing In-Country Growth through Local Resources addressed the need for financing and collaboration to unlock Africaโ€™s energy potential. Mark Brownstein, Senior Vice President of Energy Transition at the Environmental Defense Fund, highlighted the opportunity to bring affordable and accessible electricity to the continent. “The energy transition offers us a chance to finally get it right, utilizing solar, wind, and green hydrogen to ensure access to affordable electricity,” said Brownstein, urging a collaborative approach to financing energy projects that support local economies.

Gender parity in leadership was another priority, with industry figures such as Denise Mannix, Founder of Lean In Energy, leading discussions on the need for diversity in innovation. Mannix emphasized that โ€œinnovation can only be achieved through diversity,โ€ underscoring Adipecโ€™s commitment to driving progress through inclusion.

As Adipec 2024 concludes, it leaves a strong message: achieving the energy transition requires an inclusive, globally cooperative approach that balances sustainability, security, and equity.
