In a significant step toward advancing renewable energy, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Al Ajban Solar PV project in Abu Dhabi. The project, developed in partnership with EDF Renewables Middle East and Korea Western Power Co., Ltd. (KOWEPO), is set to become one of the largest single-site solar plants in the world.

The Al Ajban Solar PV Independent Power Producer (IPP) project boasts a capacity of 1.5GWac and will feature approximately three million bi-facial solar panels. Once operational, it is projected to supply clean energy to around 160,000 homes across the UAE, while reducing annual carbon emissions by 2.4 million tonnes.

This solar power plant represents a critical component of the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative and marks the third utility-scale solar park in Abu Dhabi. It further cements the Emirate’s position as a global leader in renewable energy innovation and sustainability.

The project underscores the UAE’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio, supporting both regional energy needs and global climate goals.
