Korea-Germany Standards Dialogue: Advancing Clean Energy Collaboration Through Unified Global Standards

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), and Germany’s leading standards organizations, the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) and the German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (DKE), launched the inaugural Korea-Germany Standards Dialogue in Seoul today.

The event brought together around 100 standards experts from both nations to enhance cooperation in shaping international standards across key industries.

The Dialogue featured the presentation of national strategies, including Korea’s National Standardization Strategy for Advanced Industries and Germany’s Strategy for International Digital Policy. These were followed by collaborative working group meetings and panel discussions across seven pivotal technology domains: artificial intelligence (AI), smart manufacturing, battery technology, hydrogen energy, climate change and carbon neutrality, smart standards, and direct current power sources.

The discussions aimed to share insights on technical standards trends, align policy directions, and identify potential joint projects for international standards development.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral collaboration, KATS announced plans to work closely with DIN and DKE on clean energy standards, aligning with agreements made during the bilateral summit in July. Both countries will establish a joint working group comprising standards experts to conduct research and develop proposals for international standards in clean energy sectors, particularly hydrogen and battery technologies.
