Juniper Green Energy has signed a major deal with First Solar for the supply of 1 gigawatt (GW) of advanced Series 7 FT1 cadmium telluride (CdTe) thin film photovoltaic (PV) modules. This agreement marks a significant milestone for the Gurgaon-based renewable energy company, which plans to deploy these modules across its projects in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra in the upcoming financial year.
The two-year agreement will see First Solar supply high-efficiency solar modules, making it one of the largest agreements for domestically produced modules in India. This deal allows Juniper Green Energy to reduce its reliance on Chinese supply chains, as the Series 7 FT1 modules are made in India and do not depend on Chinaโs crystalline silicon supply. The modules are designed specifically for Indiaโs ground-mount PV market and come with several key benefits, including ALMM enlistment, DCR eligibility, and BIS compliance. These features will help optimize the balance of system (BOS) costs and lower the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) for PV projects in the country.
First Solarโs manufacturing plant in Chennai will be the source of the modules, ensuring that Juniper Green Energy has access to a reliable and domestic supply. Mr. Naresh Mansukhani, CEO of Juniper Green Energy, expressed excitement about the partnership, highlighting how the collaboration will provide a steady supply of modules for the companyโs projects. He also emphasized that sourcing modules from First Solar aligns with their domestic content strategy and ensures access to a competitive and reliable product.
Mr. Georges Antoun, Chief Commercial Officer of First Solar, also praised the partnership, noting that Juniper Greenโs decision to select American solar technology made in India strengthens their supply chain. He further emphasized the importance of this collaboration in powering Juniper Greenโs portfolio with high-quality, high-performance modules.
This deal represents a step forward in Indiaโs solar industry, supporting both the growth of renewable energy and the local manufacturing of solar modules.
