Union Minister Pralhad Joshi Visits Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park, Highlights India’s Renewable Energy Progress

Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, visited the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh. The park, with a capacity of 600 MW, is recognized as the largest floating solar park in India and marks a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy development.

In a post on X, Union Minister Joshi expressed his gratitude, saying, “Visited the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project in Khandwa District, Madhya Pradesh. It is one of the largest floating solar projects in Asia with an impressive capacity of 600 MW. A big thank you to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav for their unwavering support in driving India’s renewable future forward. This project showcases the scale and ambition of our nation’s clean energy goals.”

During his visit, Shri Joshi emphasized the importance of innovative solutions such as floating solar technology in addressing land limitations while promoting sustainable development. He highlighted the efficiency of floating solar systems, noting that the cooling effect of water enhances solar panel performance and increases energy output.

The Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park has commissioned 278 MW of its total capacity, with the overall development cost estimated at ₹330 crore. The project has received Central Financial Assistance of ₹49.85 crore.

Minister Joshi further praised Madhya Pradesh for its significant contribution to India’s energy security, noting the state’s remarkable growth in renewable energy capacity. He pointed out that the state has increased its renewable energy capacity 14-fold over the past 12 years, from under 500 MW in 2012 to its current capacity.

As the project nears full capacity, the entire 600 MW park is expected to generate over 4600 million units of clean energy over the next 25 years, further contributing to India’s renewable energy aspirations.
