International renewable energy development platform ib vogt has officially begun construction on a 29.99 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar project in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia, following the achievement of financial close with Samsung SDI Energy Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. The project is being developed by ib vogt APAC under Malaysia’s Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP), with Samsung SDI Energy Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.—a subsidiary of Samsung SDI Co., Ltd.—serving as the long-term power off-taker through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
The solar project incorporates advanced bi-facial solar modules and a single axis tracking system, designed to optimize energy generation throughout the day. This setup is expected to prevent approximately 55,380 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, making a meaningful contribution to environmental sustainability. Samsung SDI Co., Ltd. is recognized for its innovations in green energy solutions and advanced materials, and has integrated sustainability as a central focus of its corporate strategy.
Dato’ Jung Woochang, Managing Director of Samsung SDI Energy Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., said in a statement, “In support of our parent company Samsung SDI’s commitment to 100% renewable energy, we are actively advancing clean energy sourcing with multiple partners, with the shared goal of achieving the RE100 target by 2050. Our participation in the Corporate Green Power Programme marks a key milestone in this effort, and we are keen to play a vital role in supporting the growth of new solar capacity across the region. We congratulate ib vogt on the commencement of construction for these solar projects in Malaysia – an important step toward powering a cleaner, more sustainable future.”
“Supply chain decarbonization is crucial in the overall ecosystem of the energy transition. It is great to see Samsung SDI Energy Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. leading the way with decarbonizing their production facilities and we are proud to be their partner in this project,” commented David Ludwig, CEO of ib vogt APAC.
The partnership with ib vogt reflects Samsung SDI’s ongoing efforts to support global clean energy transitions and decarbonization efforts throughout the region. Construction of the project is underway and it is expected to be completed and operational in 2026. Once operational, the CGPP project will play a significant role in supporting Malaysia’s renewable energy targets and broader corporate sustainability objectives, providing a reliable and clean energy source for the future.
