In a significant stride towards sustainable governance, the Odisha Raj Bhavan is set to become the stateโs first net zero energy campus. Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati announced this landmark initiative during a recent energy transition event, positioning the Governorโs residence as a model for solar and electric vehicle (EV) integration in public infrastructure.
The transformation plan includes the installation of a 150-kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar power system, already operational, with an additional 400 kW capacity under development. These solar installations are expected to completely offset the Raj Bhavanโs โน3 lakh monthly electricity bill, bringing it down to zero, while contributing surplus power back to the grid.
In parallel, the Raj Bhavan is adopting e-mobility solutions. Four electric vehicles have already been inducted into the official fleet, replacing fossil fuel-powered alternatives. This dual focus on renewable power and green mobility reflects a broader shift in Odishaโs administrative framework towards energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
Governor Kambhampati highlighted the urgency of moving away from fossil fuels and urged citizens and institutions alike to leverage subsidies provided by both central and state governments to adopt renewable energy solutions. Deputy Chief Minister K. V. Singh Deo echoed the sentiment, underlining the stateโs policy push to equip all government buildings with solar power.
For solar developers, EPC contractors, and EV solution providers, the Raj Bhavan initiative represents a replicable model and a strong government commitment to the clean energy transition. As Odisha accelerates its green transformation, the Raj Bhavan stands as a high-visibility beacon of whatโs possible with integrated solar and EV adoption in public infrastructure.
