TAQA Energy Services, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), has successfully completed the third phase of a major 9,000-kilowatt peak (kWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) project at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) campus in Al Ain.
The latest phase saw the installation of 14,400 advanced solar panels across 84,000 square metres. The system is capable of generating 18.7 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy annuallyโmeeting 30% of the universityโs total electricity demand and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 8,000 tonnes each year.
Khalid Mohamed Al Qubaisi, CEO of TAQA Energy Services, highlighted the strategic importance of the project. โOur ongoing partnership with UAEU on the largest solar power project at an educational institution in the UAE reflects our commitment to the countryโs 2030 sustainability goals. This milestone underscores TAQAโs role in advancing clean energy and energy efficiency across the Emirate,โ he said.
UAEUโs Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ahmed Ali Alraeesi, also welcomed the development, stating: โThis collaboration with TAQA is a critical step in achieving our sustainability targets. Beyond supplying clean power to the campus, it serves as a living laboratory that empowers students to be future leaders in climate action.โ
The multi-phase solar initiative began with an energy retrofit program that achieved a 27% reduction in electricity consumption across select buildings. The second phase expanded energy-saving measures to more facilities within the campus. With the third phase now complete, the university has significantly enhanced its renewable energy footprint while aligning with Abu Dhabiโs broader energy transition strategy.
TAQA Energy Services, launched in January 2020, continues to play a central role in modernising Abu Dhabiโs power and water infrastructure through cutting-edge renewable and energy efficiency solutions.
