Texas-based OCI Energy LLC, CPS Energy, and LG Energy Solution Vertech, the U.S. energy storage division of LG Energy Solution, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the development of the Alamo City Battery Energy Storage System (Alamo City BESS) project.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony held in Seoul, South Korea, where the parent companies of OCI Energy and LG Energy Solution Vertech are headquartered. The partnership marks a major step forward in efforts to strengthen grid infrastructure and improve energy security and reliability for residents and businesses in San Antonio.

The Alamo City BESS project is a 120 megawatt (MW) / 480 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system currently in development in Bexar County, Texas. Once completed, it will help supply power to the ERCOT grid during peak demand and support San Antonioโ€™s long-term goals for sustainability and energy resilience. The project also represents a significant contribution to the stateโ€™s expanding battery storage capacity.

“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to energy innovation and affordability,” said Sabah Bayatli, President of OCI Energy. “The Alamo City BESS project demonstrates the strength of international partnerships in delivering critical energy infrastructure that will provide CPS Energy customers with greater energy security. We are proud to work alongside CPS Energy and LG Energy Solution Vertech to realize this vision for a stronger, safer grid that provides more affordable power, while supporting local economic development.”

“We are proud to supportย San Antonio’sย energy transition through this strategic collaboration,” addedย Jaehong Park, President and CEO of LG Energy Solution Vertech. “This project integrates our advanced lithium-ion batteries with comprehensive solutionsโ€”including system integration, control software, and long-term services. The deployment of our BESS marks a key milestone in stabilizing theย Texasย power grid, and we remain committed to advancing grid reliability as we expand our efforts acrossย Texas.”

As outlined in the MOU, LG Energy Solution Vertech will supply the battery storage system and energy management technology to OCI Energy, which is leading the projectโ€™s development. CPS Energy, serving as the projectโ€™s off-taker, plans to enter into an agreement with OCI Energy to purchase energy storage capacity from the facility.
