Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State paid a courtesy visit to the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) headquarters on Monday, where he was received by Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Director General/CEO of ECN, and senior commission officials. The visit centered on advancing energy innovation and strengthening collaboration on clean energy policies at both state and federal levels.
During the meeting, Dr. Abdullahi presented an overview of ECN’s mandate and shared updates on the National Energy Master Plan—a comprehensive roadmap to guide Nigeria’s transition to clean and sustainable energy. He highlighted the federal government’s growing support for renewable initiatives, notably President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent approval of the Renewed Hope Solarization Project, which will deploy solar-powered streetlights in institutions across all 36 states.
Commending ECN’s efforts, Governor Ododo praised Dr. Abdullahi for his leadership in driving national clean energy goals and described him as “a worthy ambassador of Kogi State.” The Governor also lauded President Tinubu’s inclusive approach to energy and development, particularly his policies aimed at empowering young Nigerians and expanding access to energy infrastructure.
In response, Dr. Abdullahi expressed gratitude for the Governor’s visit and reiterated ECN’s commitment to achieving 30% off-grid energy coverage nationwide. He emphasized the role of the Renewed Hope Solarization Initiative as a cornerstone in reaching underserved communities and accelerating Nigeria’s clean energy adoption.
The visit marked a strategic alignment between state-level leadership and national clean energy objectives, further reinforcing Nigeria’s pathway toward a resilient and inclusive energy future.
