Primergy Solar LLC has announced the successful start of commercial operations for its Ash Creek Solar project, a large-scale solar photovoltaic power plant located in Hill County, Texas. The 408 MWac facility is now actively supplying clean and affordable energy to the local grid under a long-term power purchase agreement with Microsoft. This partnership highlights how utility-scale solar projects are helping Texas meet its increasing electricity demand while supporting renewable energy goals.

Ash Creek Solar is expected to contribute approximately $100 million in tax payments to Hill County over the course of its operation. The project will also significantly enhance the local tax base, particularly benefiting nearby school districts. In addition to the economic benefits, Primergy Solar and its EPC partner, SOLV Energy, have invested in local education through community initiatives. In partnership with the Heart of America Foundation, they supported school improvement projects at Abbott and Penelope Independent School Districts, upgrading learning environments and contributing to long-term educational development.

The Ash Creek Solar project reflects Primergy Solarโ€™s consistent track record in executing some of the largest and most innovative solar power projects across the United States. In 2023, Primergy secured $588 million in project financing and an additional $350 million in tax equity financing, bringing the total capital commitment for Ash Creek Solar to nearly $1 billion. The tax equity investment was led by a Fortune 500 telecommunications company and Truist Bank.

Primergy CEO Ty Daul, stated, “Projects like Ash Creek Solar provide thoughtful energy solutions to meet the needs of consumers, drive long-term value, and strengthen America’s energy independence. We are proud to work alongside Microsoft, our local stakeholders, and the broader Hill County community to ensure this project delivers reliable and affordable energy to the grid, along with economic growth for the community for years to come.”

The project was originally developed by Orion Power Generation, LLC, a joint venture between Orion Renewable Energy Group LLC and Eolian with development beginning in 2016. Primergy acquired the project in 2021 and has since taken it through construction to successful grid connection and operation. Ash Creek Solar stands as a major milestone in Texasโ€™s energy transition, showcasing how large-scale solar can support both environmental and economic progress in local communities.
