Tata Power has successfully completed all Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission lines under the South East UP Power Transmission Company Limited (SEUPPTCL) project in Uttar Pradesh. The milestone was achieved after the commissioning of the 400 kV Tanda-Gonda and Gonda-Basti double circuit lines, which together cover 154 circuit kilometers.
The SEUPPTCL project was taken up as part of the resolution of stressed power sector assets and is being developed through a joint venture involving Tata Power, ICICI Bank, and global investors under Resurgent Power Ventures Pte. Limited. With the latest commissioning, the project has created a strong transmission network across the state.
The completed infrastructure now includes three 765 kV transmission lines, fourteen 400 kV lines, and three 765/400 kV substations. These substations together provide a transformation capacity of 3460 MVA, helping improve power handling and distribution efficiency across multiple regions in the state.
The project required large-scale engineering and execution efforts. More than 45,000 metric tonnes of tower steel were used, and over 8,600 kilometers of conductors were installed. The construction process involved crossing 139 critical locations, including railway tracks, rivers, and highways. Special care was taken to ensure that all work in forest areas followed environmental regulations and compliance norms.
Key transmission lines such as the Mainpuri-Bara and Mainpuri-Unnao 765 kV corridors have been designed to support the evacuation of more than 4,000 MW of thermal power generated within Uttar Pradesh. This is expected to improve the reliability of electricity supply and strengthen the overall grid system in the state.
With the completion of seventeen transmission corridors under this project, Tata Powerโs total operational transmission network has increased to 5,466 circuit kilometers. In addition, the company currently has another 1,863 circuit kilometers of transmission lines under construction, indicating continued expansion in this segment.
Tata Power, a part of the Tata Group, manages a diversified power portfolio of 16.3 GW. Around 46 percent of this capacity comes from clean energy sources, reflecting the companyโs focus on sustainable power development.
The completion of the SEUPPTCL project marks an important step in strengthening high-voltage transmission infrastructure in India. It is expected to support growing electricity demand, improve grid stability, and contribute to the countryโs broader economic development.
