EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) is a film used in solar modules that are used to protect the solar cells from all types of mechanical, chemical, and environmental shocks. It is a very critical component, as it is directly in touch with the solar cells. It is basically a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. It offers good optical transparency, elasticity, and adhesion to glass/cell surfaces.
Problem with Conventional EVA?
One of the main problems the solar module manufacturer faces when they encapsulate the Solar cells is formation of Acetic Acid (CH₃COOH). Acetic acid is mainly formed due the presence of vinyl acetate in the EVA. The formation of acetic acid leads to browning, metallization corrosion, and potential-induced degradation (PID) in damp conditions. Also, EVA’s resistance to moisture ingress and UV aging is limited, over time EVA yellows (reducing light transmission) and its mechanical/adhesive properties degrade.EVA film relies on peroxide additives to form strong bonds when it is heated and pressed during lamination. As those peroxides break down they emit small amounts of volatile organic compounds so proper ventilation and thorough drying are essential. Over time any remaining byproducts combined with moisture can allow silver particles to drift beneath the glass and cause light brown discoloration often called snail trails.
Alishan Low Acid EVA
At Alishan Green Energy, we have developed Alishan Low Acid EVA to keep solar modules running reliably by stopping acetic acid from corroding silver and copper contacts. In humidity and heat tests lasting over a thousand hours, it showed almost no yellowing or layer separation and kept power loss to a minimum. Its mild chemistry also improves insulation resistance so modules resist leakage currents and easily pass PID trials. Because it uses the same lamination steps it works seamlessly with TOPCon and HJT cells. Overall it lets you boost durability and performance without changing your production line.
Benefits of Alishan Low acid EVA
• Stable acid profile: It delivers an initial acid value of just 4–6 ppm and stays below 10 ppm even after 1 000 hours of damp‑heat testing so you won’t see hidden corrosion down the road
• Consistent adhesion: It maintains tensile strength above 16 MPa and adhesion to glass and backsheet above 75 N/cm so cells stay locked in place through every weather cycle
• Minimal shrinkage: It limits thermal shrinkage to under 3 percent lengthwise and 1 percent widthwise, ensuring your layer alignment holds firm under heat
• Rock‑solid moisture barrier:- It absorbs less than 0.1 percent water by weight and boasts very low water‑vapour transmission so humidity stays out of the stack
• Wide lamination window works reliably between 140 and 150 °C with a 4–6 minute vacuum pull and 8–10 minute press cycle, letting your line run smoothly without constant tweaks
• High‑voltage safety offers dielectric strength up to 32 kV/mm and a CTI rating of 600 volts, giving you extra margin against tracking or arcing in harsh environments
Alishan EPE (Hybrid Layer Of EVA-POE-EVA)
Alishan EPE is a next‑generation multilayer EVA‑POE film engineered for today’s most demanding cell technologies TopCon, PERC and HJT in M10 or G12 formats. It creates an acid‑free environment inside the module to protect any metal
Benefits of Alishan EPE
• Seamless adhesion with glass and backsheet peel strengths over 50 N / 10 mm even after 3 000 hours in 85 % RH 85 °C damp heat tests
• Crystal clear optics offering more than 91 % light transmittance and a yellowness index under 3 so every photon reaches the cell
• Robust moisture barrier that keeps humidity out of the stack with a water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) below 5 g / m² · day
• PID resilience showing power loss under 2 % in IEC 62804 tests for stable high-voltage performance over time
Use of EPE in topcon modules
In TOPCon modules Alishan EPE forms a transparent barrier over the ultra‑thin tunnel oxide and conductive coatings to safeguard them during lamination and in the field. It permits more than ninety‑one percent of sunlight to pass through with negligible haze while its exceptionally low moisture permeability and proven UV resistance prevent water ingress and sun‑induced degradation like PID and UVID.
Thanks to its high insulation strength it averts leakage currents even in large high‑voltage arrays so modules maintain their rated output year after year. Because it uses the same heat and pressure profile you already employ it integrates seamlessly into existing production lines.
