NEM Sets New Renewable Generation Record at 77.19%

The National Electricity Market (NEM) has set a new record for renewable energy generation, with renewables supplying 77.19% of total demand yesterday.

The milestone comes just days after renewables reached 75.79% last Friday, surpassing the previous record of 75.56% set in November 2024. The latest achievement underscores the rapid growth of renewable energy across Australia’s power system.

Energy analysts note that as renewable penetration climbs higher, each new record becomes increasingly difficult to achieve. Future progress will depend on further reducing thermal generation during daytime hours, creating additional room for renewables on the grid.

The record highlights the accelerating transition underway as Australia advances towards its net zero energy system goals.
