THDC India Commissions 11 MW Floating Solar Plant At Khurja STPP, Boosting NTPC’s Green Capacity

NTPC Limited has announced a new renewable energy milestone through its subsidiary THDC India Limited (THDC) with the commissioning of an 11 MWac floating solar power plant at the Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (STPP). The project achieved its Commercial Operation Date (COD) on July 17, 2026, marking another step in the company’s efforts to expand clean energy generation.

The floating solar plant has been installed on the Raw Water Reservoir of the Khurja STPP, demonstrating the increasing adoption of water-based solar solutions in India. Floating solar projects help address land availability challenges by utilizing existing water bodies for power generation. They also contribute to reducing water evaporation losses, improving the overall efficiency and sustainability of water resource management.

The achievement was officially disclosed by both NTPC Limited and THDC India Limited through regulatory filings submitted to the BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India Limited in compliance with SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations.

Following the commissioning of the floating solar facility, THDC India Limited’s total installed and commercial capacity has increased to 3,918 MW. The addition further strengthens the renewable energy portfolio of the NTPC Group, which continues to expand its presence in clean energy generation.

With this new capacity addition, NTPC Group’s total installed capacity has reached 90,965 MW, while its total commercial capacity has increased to 89,885 MW. The floating solar project at Khurja reflects NTPC’s broader strategy of accelerating renewable energy deployment and supporting India’s transition toward a sustainable power sector.
