Union Power Minister Shri Manohar Lal concluded his two-day visit to Jammu & Kashmir on January 4, 2026, during which he reviewed the progress of several major hydropower projects in the Union Territory. On the first day of the visit, the Minister assessed the Salal, Sawalkot and Ratle hydropower projects.
Later the same day, Shri Lal visited NHPCโs Dulhasti Power Station in Kishtwar, where he was received by Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), NHPC, Shri Ramesh Mukhiya, Managing Director of Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited (CVPP), along with senior officials from NHPC and CVPP.
On the second day of the visit, the Power Minister inspected all three hydropower projects being developed by CVPPโPakal Dul (1,000 MW), Kiru (624 MW) and Kwar (540 MW). He also chaired a review meeting with project heads and contractors to assess construction progress and address key implementation challenges. During the meeting, the Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC provided a detailed briefing on the status of the three under-construction projects.
Following the review, Shri Manohar Lal directed that the Pakal Dul and Kiru projects be commissioned by December 2026, while the Kwar project is to be commissioned by March 2028.
During the visit, the Minister interacted with local residents and workers at various project sites and listened to their concerns. He later commended the engineers, staff and workers for their efforts in executing the projects under challenging terrain and climatic conditions, and extended his best wishes for the timely completion of the remaining works.
