The UAE is advancing the global transition towards a resilient, sustainable and diversified energy future under the guidance of its leadership, Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, said on the occasion of the International Day of Clean Energy.
Al Dahak highlighted that rapid technological shifts, particularly the growing role of artificial intelligence, are accelerating global energy demand, making partnerships essential to achieving a technology-enabled and sustainable energy transition. She said the UAE is focused on meeting rising energy needs responsibly by building an integrated and sustainable energy sector that supports economic growth while protecting the environment.
โThe UAE is dedicating its efforts to supporting global energy demand through diversification, innovation and sustainability, while building systems that enable continued human progress,โ she said.
She noted that the UAEโs commitment is reflected in tangible actions, including hosting three of the worldโs largest solar power plants. Flagship projects such as Al Dhafra Solar PV, the worldโs largest single-site solar power plant, and Noor Abu Dhabi play a central role in achieving the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to increase the share of clean energy and reduce the carbon footprint of the power sector by 70 percent. These initiatives also support the UAE Net Zero Strategy 2050.
Al Dahak also highlighted the UAEโs leadership in nuclear energy, noting that it is the first Arab country to operate a nuclear power plant. The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant has become the countryโs largest source of electricity and produces carbon-free power. In addition, she said the National Wind Programme now supplies electricity to more than 23,000 homes and helps avoid approximately 120,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
Looking ahead, Al Dahak said the UAE plans to expand the production of blue and green hydrogen. Under the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050, the country aims to become one of the worldโs largest hydrogen producers by 2031, strengthening its position in the emerging global hydrogen economy.
She added that the UAE is integrating advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, across the energy and industrial sectors to enhance efficiency and sustainability. Reaffirming the countryโs commitment to the Paris Agreement, Al Dahak said the UAE will continue to serve as a global platform for cooperation and called on international partners and investors to collaborate in driving sustainable development and long-term energy solutions.
