Sobha Realty’s new luxury villa community, Sobha Elwood, will integrate advanced clean energy systems through a partnership with Positive Zero. As part of this initiative, the project will use the region’s first mobile battery energy storage system, known as mBESS, marking a major shift from traditional diesel-powered construction practices.
The mobile battery units provide electricity on-site without fumes or noise, offering a much cleaner and more efficient alternative to diesel generators. Over the course of the two-year agreement, Positive Zero’s HYPR system is expected to replace more than 30,000 gallons of diesel. To put this into perspective, that amount of energy is equivalent to powering over 25 million smartphones. This change not only reduces pollution but also supports a more sustainable construction environment.
Ravi Menon, Chairman of Sobha Group, emphasized that sustainability is central to how Sobha Realty builds its communities. He explained that the collaboration with Positive Zero at Sobha Elwood reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to adopting renewable energy solutions across its developments. He also noted that this initiative supports national sustainability goals outlined in the UAE Green Agenda 2030 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, reinforcing Sobha’s dedication to creating communities that are modern, environmentally responsible, and designed for the future.
Each mobile battery system used on-site is powered by clean solar energy, offering far greater efficiency compared to diesel alternatives. Positive Zero manages the process by regularly swapping charged batteries in and out to maintain a constant and reliable electricity supply for construction activities. The system is projected to deliver approximately 219 MWh of electricity annually, significantly reducing the project’s carbon footprint.
David Auriau, Chief Executive Officer of Positive Zero, expressed his support for Sobha Realty’s forward-thinking approach. He stated that Sobha is setting a strong example for the real estate sector by showing how clean energy can contribute to more sustainable urban development and help reduce overall emissions.
This collaboration marks the second time Sobha Realty has partnered with Positive Zero. After the successful deployment of the HYPR system at Sobha One, Sobha Elwood becomes the next project to adopt these innovative renewable energy solutions. The move further demonstrates Sobha Realty’s commitment to backing Dubai’s strategic objective of reducing carbon emissions by 50 percent by the year 2030.
