Singapore Raises Solar Target To 3 GW-Peak By 2030 In Budget 2026

Singapore has increased its solar deployment target to 3 gigawatt-peak (GW-peak) by 2030, after achieving its earlier goal of 2 GW-peak ahead of schedule. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong during his Budget 2026 speech on February 12, 2026. The revised target reflects the country’s continued push to expand renewable energy capacity despite its land and resource constraints.

Wong said Singapore will continue to install solar panels on all suitable spaces, including rooftops and other viable areas. He added that the government plans to set even more ambitious solar goals in the coming years as technology improves and deployment opportunities grow.

Alongside domestic solar expansion, Singapore is moving forward with plans to import low-carbon electricity from neighboring countries. These regional power imports are expected to support the nation’s energy transition and strengthen supply resilience.

The Prime Minister noted that Singapore’s journey toward net zero emissions will rely on new technologies and strong international cooperation. As a small country with limited natural resources, Singapore faces unique challenges in decarbonizing its economy. Wong acknowledged that progress may not always be smooth but emphasized that the government remains committed to a credible and steady transition toward its climate goals.
